Challenge
Ductless mini split for Cottage. The customer was tired of having to deal with window air conditioning units every summer. They were especially tired of not being able to fully utilize their windows on the most beautiful days of the year. On top of that, the customer was paying high electricity bills since the window units weren’t exactly the most efficient systems.
Solution
Mitsubishi ductless mini-split system – 18,000 BTU indoor unit (MSZFS18NA), 9,000 BTU and 6,000 BTU GL (MSZGL09NA, MSZGL06NA) connected to a 5-zone 3.5 ton outdoor unit (MXZ-5C42NA).
Result
We provided a ductless mini-split design that placed ductless mini-splits units in each of their main living spaces. The customer chose to go with Mitsubishi Electric ductless mini-splits for their sheer reliability and high quality. We placed an 18,000 BTU Mitsubishi indoor unit (MSZFS18NA) in their main living area since it needed to condition both the dining room and the living room. They went with a FS unit because of the better technology that it provides: 4 multi-positional levers, a side to side swinging capability, and an i-See sensor that completes a thermal scan to condition the room with more detail.
We also placed 9,000 and 6,000 BTU GL (MSZGL09NA, MSZGL06NA) indoor units in the finished basement and bedrooms. They wanted the baseline units since less people go through those spaces in the home.
All of these units were connected to a 5-zone 3.5 ton outdoor unit that was placed on the back-side of the house. The line-sets connecting the indoor units to the outdoor unit were covered with weather proofed plastic covers. The covers are mainly for visual appeal.
The customer now has Mitsubishi ductless mini-split air conditioning throughout the house. They are experiencing well distributed air flow from their units and they are thrilled they can use their windows again. They will be pleased to see a better proportion of comfort and monthly cost on their upcoming electricity bills.
Since the system has been installed, it’s been working well. The customer said, “Living in our house is very comfortable. Now you can wear shorts and flip-flops year-round. So the system more than adequately serves our heating load.”
